About

Welcome.

With this blog I intend to break the silence surrounding the Judicial Services Commission of the Maldives (JSC).  It is intended  to inform parliamentarians, decision-makers, members of the judiciary, and the people about the work of the JSC;  and to create a space for public dialogue.

It is expected that putting issues in public domain will  promote the practice of good governance within the JSC and help JSC reinvent itself into a participatory, consensus oriented, accountable, transparent, responsive, effective and efficient, equitable and inclusive institution that follows the rule of law. I believe that it is only through transparency and accountability that the JSC can generate public confidence in the Commission and therefore the Judiciary.

The content of the blog is framed from my personal experiences and observations as a member of the JSC, and reflects my views and opinions which may not be necessarily shared by the Commission as a whole.  The official website of the JSC is available at www.jsc.gov.mv.

From 23 April to 26 July 2009, in the final three months of the transitional JSC, I served as  member of the general public appointed by the People’s Majlis (Parliament) under Article 157 (f) of the Constitution 2008; and from 26 July 2009 I am serving as person appointed by the President under Article 157 (h).

Thank you for visiting my blog.

Hi Vel, For those of us living out of Maldives it might bea good idea if you could give us the news in English and a link to comment in English.
We all heard that the President has asked JSC to reconsider the criteria, and what little info was available on the PO website didnt say much. Is it pos to have more detail on this? eg we know the criteria but what are the President’s views, what are the JSC members views etc etc x ulla

    Dear
    Velezinee
Your friend Emma Fulu informed me (sometime ago) that you have written a report on the Maldivian family Law. Could you kindly give me a soft copy of it through the email???

I’m doing a research related to the Maldivian Family Law, so, if you kindly let me know what you have written in your report it will be a great help and a boost for me in my research, and I assure you that your intellectual rights will not be violated.

I understand that you are very busy right now because of the JSC works, but I’m sure that you will not hesitate to lend me a helping hand by sending me a copy of that report as soon as you find a free minute.
(And forgive me sending this request through your blog as a comment, it certainly is not a comment but an earnest request. My justification is I don’t have your email address.)

    with regards
    Muhammad
